Chestnut Carbon and Funga have announced a strategic partnership to accelerate forest regeneration and carbon storage by combining Chestnut’s large-scale afforestation efforts with Funga’s innovative soil microbiome restoration technology. Chestnut Carbon, which has already planted over 17 million trees across 30,000 acres and enrolled 175,000 acres of private forestland in its conservation program, focuses on restoring U.S. forests with diverse, native tree species while adhering to FSC sustainability standards. Funga enhances forest health and carbon sequestration by reintroducing biodiverse fungal networks to seedlings, restoring degraded soils and boosting growth, with 28,000 acres already enrolled in its projects and early credits sold to Netflix. Beginning this pine planting season, Chestnut will plant over 300,000 Funga-inoculated trees across the Southeast, enabling faster ecosystem recovery on degraded agricultural lands and accelerating carbon capture. Both companies highlight that this collaboration exemplifies how nature-based solutions can complement one another, with Chestnut scaling afforestation and Funga amplifying forest growth potential. By uniting their approaches, they aim to deliver more resilient ecosystems, healthier forests, and significantly greater climate impact while setting a model for collaborative, science-driven carbon removal.
