Eni and Q8 Italy have announced a strategic partnership to construct a new biorefinery in Priolo, Sicily, by transforming the existing Versalis site. The project, which has received formal approval from both companies’ boards, will utilize Eni’s proprietary Ecofining™ technology to convert waste, residues, and vegetable oils into cleaner fuels. With a planned capacity of 500,000 tonnes per year, the facility is designed to offer operational flexibility in producing Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO), commonly known as Renewable Diesel (RD) and Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). Aiming to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by at least 65% compared to fossil equivalents, the project is expected to be completed by the end of 2028. This initiative aligns with Eni’s goal of achieving 5 million tonnes of annual biorefining capacity by 2030, securing a sustainable industrial future for the region.
