Frontier has announced an additional commitment of $915 million to accelerate the world’s leading carbon removal companies, bringing its total commitment to $1.8 billion. Participating buyers include Stripe, Google, Shopify, Salesforce, H&M Group and Anthropic, reinforcing growing corporate support for carbon removal technologies. The new funding reflects Frontier’s belief that the major challenge facing the sector is no longer proving that carbon removal works, but ensuring that demand materializes at the scale needed to support a gigaton-scale future. Frontier stated that achieving this level of deployment will require companies and governments to work together, with corporate buyers providing reliable revenue that helps technologies reach commercial scale while governments develop long-term policy frameworks. As part of its next phase, Frontier will focus purchases on a narrower portfolio of companies that demonstrate strong potential for gigaton-scale impact while ensuring every deal has a clear pathway to long-term demand through compliance markets, industrial regulation or direct government procurement. Frontier was launched in 2022 as a $1 billion advance market commitment designed to accelerate carbon removal by sending a strong demand signal to researchers, entrepreneurs and investors. Four years later, the organization reports significant progress across the sector. Hundreds of companies are now operating across more than 20 carbon removal approaches, compared with only a handful in 2022. Frontier has evaluated more than 500 companies and helped establish the first commercial deals in enhanced rock weathering, inland water alkalinity enhancement, ocean alkalinity enhancement, biomass injection and waste-to-energy with carbon capture. The sector has also achieved tangible deployment milestones, with seven Frontier portfolio companies delivering approximately 23,000 tons of carbon removal in 2025, roughly double the previous year, while developing 1.4 million tons of new annual removal capacity. Portfolio companies are forecasting more than 50,000 tons removed this year, continuing rapid growth. Demand has also expanded significantly, with more than 350 new corporate buyers collectively purchasing almost four million tons of carbon removal since 2022. At the same time, policy-driven demand is emerging in Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Germany, the United Kingdom, the European Union, Japan, the United States and Canada. Frontier highlighted several pathways it believes could contribute to a future carbon removal portfolio, including surficial mineralization, ocean alkalinity enhancement, biomass carbon removal and storage, enhanced rock weathering and direct air capture. Each pathway presents different strengths, costs and scaling opportunities, reinforcing the view that a diversified portfolio will be necessary to reach gigaton-scale carbon removal. Looking ahead, Frontier emphasized the need for stronger corporate participation, public-private partnerships, continued support for emerging technologies and responsible deployment standards. To support these goals, the organization is launching the Growth AMC, which will focus on approximately 10 to 15 targeted investments through long-term offtake agreements lasting eight to ten years. The strategy is designed to help promising projects reach commercial-scale final investment decisions, strengthen long-term demand and accelerate the development of carbon removal technologies capable of supporting global climate goals while building the foundation for a large-scale and durable carbon removal market.
