Rubicon Carbon

Rubicon Carbon has signed an agreement to deliver two million high-quality Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation credits to Microsoft over a nine-year period, sourced through 2035 from Kijani Forestry’s Smallholder Farmer Forestry Project in Northern Uganda. The project is among the first approved under Uganda’s Climate Change Mechanisms Regulations and represents the first initiative to move forward under a broader framework between Rubicon Carbon and Microsoft that enables the purchase of up to 18 million tonnes of carbon removal credits. The structured framework is designed to streamline contracting and expand access to long-term capital for nature-based removal projects. Kijani Forestry works with more than 50,000 smallholder farmers and has planted 30 million trees to date, significantly increasing household incomes while restoring degraded land. The agreement enables farmers to access future carbon revenue within a year of planting and creates long-term income opportunities through sustainable timber and charcoal production, supporting ecological recovery and improved livelihoods across Northern Uganda.
