The Scottish Government is increasing CARES funding to £15 million this year to support community groups developing renewable energy and building decarbonisation projects across Scotland. The funding will help communities develop projects such as onshore wind and solar while installing technologies including heat pumps and solar panels to reduce energy costs and carbon emissions. CARES has already provided more than £83 million to communities, supporting over 1,200 projects and 75 MW of renewable energy capacity. The Scottish Government will also refresh guidance for public bodies to encourage the use of public land and buildings for community renewable energy projects and is assessing opportunities to deploy solar technology in underused spaces.
