Solad Power Group, through its subsidiary Solad Integrated Power Solutions, has marked a major milestone in Nigeria’s clean energy transition with the successful sale of its first International Renewable Energy Certificates I RECs, facilitated through a partnership with Rivy, highlighting the importance of Nigeria’s expanding carbon market. I RECs are globally recognised market based tradable instruments that certify electricity generated from renewable sources such as solar and wind, with each certificate representing a megawatt hour of clean energy produced and enabling companies to offset greenhouse gas emissions while ensuring sustainability and continued operations of clean energy projects. Solad’s inaugural sale linked to its solar power generation in Iponri market signals increasing international confidence in Nigeria’s climate positive initiatives and aligns with the Federal Government’s national carbon market framework, expected to unlock up to 3 billion dollars in climate finance annually by 2030. The framework includes a National Carbon Registry requiring companies to disclose emissions, boosting transparency and accelerating decarbonisation. Executed with Rivy, the transaction sets a benchmark for credibility, transparency, and accountability, demonstrating how structured carbon trading can reduce costs of deploying solar minigrids, strengthen carbon finance, and support Nigeria’s growing carbon offset ecosystem while enabling clean energy access and economic inclusion.
