Post-Election Outlook: Canadian Carbon and Clean Fuel Markets

calendar-imageTuesday, 6th May 2025
schedule-image 10:00 am PT

Canada’s federal election on April 28th is poised to be a major inflection point for climate policy and carbon markets across the country both at a federal and provincial level. Certain climate policies have already been central to the political dialogue, such as the now ‘axed’ consumer carbon tax, and the industrial carbon pricing program known as the OBPS. But the impacts of elections will extend beyond these two federal programs, and also have the potential to affect the ambition of provincial programs such as Alberta TIER, BC LCFS and Quebec Cap-and-Trade.

To provide insights on how climate policy and markets may evolve under the new administration, cCarbon analysts will be joined by trusted and seasoned experts:

  • Robyn Gray, VP Clean Infrastructure, Sussex Strategy Group
  • Dave Sawyer, Principal Economist, Canadian Climate Institute
  • Andrew Hall, Managing Director, Head of Carbon Markets at TD Securities
  • Lisa DeMarco, Senior Partner & CEO, Resilient LLP
  • Michael Bernstein, President & CEO, Clean Prosperity
  • Arpit Soni, Associate Director, cCarbon

Our discussion will focus on, but is not limited to, the following programs:

– OBPS Industrial carbon pricing
– Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations
– Provincial-level low carbon fuel programs in British Columbia and beyond
– Provincial emissions trading programs in Quebec, Alberta, British Columbia and beyond.
– Planned tax credits regimes for clean energy and climate investments.
– Role of offset protocols and related opportunities across Canada.
– Canada’s emerging role in the international climate market, especially amid shifting U.S. policy.

This session will provide a timely post-election analysis and set the stage for deeper discussions at cCarbon’s Canada Carbon and Clean Fuels Summit this November in Calgary.
