New Investment funds enter the CCA market

Ahead of the May 18^th CCA auction, we take a look at the new entrants this quarter and those entities that retired their CITSS accounts. We find:

13 New Investment Fund registered
10 Natural gas Power plants accounts retired

The Compliance Instrument Tracking System Service (CITSS) is a management and tracking system for accounts and compliance instruments issued through participating Western Climate Initiative cap-and-trade programs. CITSS is administered by the Western Climate Initiative, Inc. (WCI, Inc.). CITSS tracks compliance instruments (emissions allowances and offsets) from the point of issuance by jurisdictional governments, to ownership, transfer by regulated greenhouse gas emitters and other voluntary or general market participants, and to final compliance retirement. More interest in financial and offset producers in the upcoming auction

There are currently 770 entities registered with WCI CITSS accounts, out of which 21 new accounts were registered in March 2022. A majority of the new accounts, 13 to be exact, are financial funds/investors looking to either purchase at the upcoming auction or hold allowances in the future. The next area of interest is shown from offset producers with three new joiners. Also, one entity each belonging to the power, oil and gas, fuel, exchange, and cement sectors has registered accounts.

Power Plants retire accounts

A total of 10 power plants retired their account, including the Badger creek limited, which runs a 46MW Cogen power plant, the Bicent Malburg, LLC which operates the 134 MW natural gas plant in Los Angeles. It’s a likely possibility that the plants have had an acquisition or are closed down. In addition, one each from the petroleum sector, investment, industry, fuel sector, and cement sector closed accounts.
