Changes to the Alberta TIER went into effect in January 2023 and amendments are provided for the 2023-2030 period. Amongst the changes, the program provides for incentivizing the rapid build out of carbon capture and storage – CCS (along with the Canada CFR). Alberta plans to deploy over 55 million tons of CCS capacity by 2030.
We have used cCarbon’s CarbonOutlook model to simulate the Alberta TIER program and the demand-supply dynamics that could play out.
