Review of Deals for 2023 | Analyst Note | February 2024
Thursday, 1st February 2024

cCarbon’s 2023 analyst note provides a comprehensive analysis of corporate climate initiatives worldwide, offering insights into market trends, type of deal, valuations, and geographical distribution. The analyst note helps in assessing the trends in deals, the markets currently being targeted and serves as an important guide for investors and clients in this space.

North America’s Dominance:

Leading across major markets and project types, North America emerged as the leader among all the continents, witnessing 181 deals. The continent had the highest involvement in removals-based offsets, clean fuels (especially SAF), and renewable energy projects, showcasing the continent’s commitment towards the race to net-zero.

Clean Fuels Ascendancy:

Clean fuels take the lead in forging a path towards net-zero commitments. USA, Canada, and several European countries are spearheading the movement, propelled through various standards such as state-level LCFS programs, the ReFuelEU regulation, along with global initiatives such as CORSIA. SAF emerged as the leader within the clean fuels segment, securing 90 deals in 2023

Rise of Strategic Partnerships:

Corporate entities struck deals in the form of acquisitions, joint ventures, offtake agreements etc. However, ‘partnerships’ emerged as the most prominent type of deal. Corporates are trying to leverage each other’s expertise in the form of partnerships, as companies with similar interests, motives and goals come together for a cleaner corporate world.

Global Investment Momentum:

Deals in 2023 attracted substantial investments and funding, signaling an upsurge in corporate climate commitments. However, our data highlights a concentration of action mostly in North America and Europe.

In a landscape of evolving climate consciousness, our analyst note serves as a valuable resource for investors and clients seeking evidence-backed insights into the transformative trends defining corporate climate action across the globe.
